What causes a Mac to lose its serial number? To quote Einstein "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results." Doing the same thing here didn't produce the same problem, showing once again Macs are insanely great. |

What causes a Mac to lose its serial number? The Appstore stuff turned out to be a red herring as it persists on the fixed mini. Maybe it's running a special version of 10.8.x not yet rolled into the main installer ? So I'm accepting Grahams answer as most correct on the serial number question and editing out the irrelevant App Store part. |

What causes a Mac to lose its serial number? It does affect my mac. I cannot log into Messages and, more worryingly, I cannot download Mountain Lion from the App Store and the version of the installer I have (10.8.1) refuses to run as well. Adding screenies in the question. |

How do I download Xcode 4.4 without using the App Store? Why not download on your personal machine and just copy the app over ? Edit: also, as a sysadmin I feel I should mention that if you really need this software maybe you should get IT to provide you with the internal officially sanctioned version ;-) |

Some information about an extra SSD drive in MacBook Pro Yeah nothing's changed for Mountain Lion. Regarding SATAIII, there are incompatibilities between certain SSD chips and Nvidia-based macs. See this discussion on Macrumors. I think your MBP is a later revision but all the same I recommend checking with the vendor before purchasing or asking on support forums. |
