comment Why does the enter/return key rename a file/folder, instead of opening it?
@YemSalat Regarding your second point: Citation please. I doubt most people use the keyboard to navigate (not search) the Finder — that's quite different than navigating the filesystem using the command line.

@YemSalat The key is also labelled "return" on Macintosh keyboards. By your logic, do you also expect it to go back to the previous folder?

Sounds like you might also be interested in a keyboard-based launcher like Alfred, Quicksilver or Launchbar. There's also Apptivate which is designed to do exactly what you're looking for.

comment How do I load the DiskManagement framework in single user mode?
@labyrinth I'm sorry, when I answered this I don't think you specified the OS version. I see now that you are running the ancient version Mac OS X 10.5. This command only works on OS X 10.6 or later. Any chance you could upgrade or is this a PowerPC system?

comment Mass change a portion of a file name?
@Propeller Sorry for the late response, missed it the first time. The error means that either you missed the first line (autoload zmv), or you aren't using the stock zsh installation.

comment What are these characters from the OS X keyboard?
Actually, ligatures weren't invented with metal type, they have been around since the development of writing. Sumerian cuneiform had ligatures. Hand-written manuscripts used many ligatures including et (latin for and) which developed into the ampersand &.

Google reads them as two separate characters because they are two separate characters… imagine how bad it would be to copy/paste find or find from a website and getting two different pages of results…
