comment is the iPod Touch less able to connect to Airport WDS wifi network repeaters than an iPad? Kindle also doesn't want to!
I was the person that asked this question to begin with, and I was the person that gave this nice full answer to it. And now I just want to compliment myself for such a full answer, because it is now a long time later and I am having a new problem that this answer is now solving for me. Hooray, me!

comment Is it possible to disable the game center completely and permanently in iOS 6?
I am with you... it is totally annoying, as Game Center serves zero purposes for me, though I have given it a fair chance numerous times. Pointless app for me, but I have to have it welcoming me, throwing up logins, etc... I want it to stop and go away!

comment Is there an alternative to apple's standard wireless bluetooth trackpad? I.e., an aftermarket version of the same basic thing?
well, it's a long story. the first one had this strange deal where it would often interpret a regular touchpad touch-to-click as a RIGHT click. drove me nuts. and it also had this issue where the rubber button-feet would become uneven and therefore only one of them would wind up having pressure... like when one of a table's legs is shorter than the other three, so it hovers a bit... then, this new one was fine until it wound up perfectly replicating that second problem. Perhaps I press hard on a trackpad so the entire body gets warped after a year.

comment Why does my Mac's list of “Open with” applications start listing the apps twice and sometimes three times?
this is great info, thanks much. I am downloading Onyx, since diving into the command line gets tedious sometimes so it's interesting to think of a handy tool for this. kind of wonder why they don't put it on the mac app store -- maybe apple doesn't allow apps that fiddle with system functions on there. Anyway, appreciate this much.

Thanks much, erg, $224 to purchase it... I think I'll wait and see of windows 8 is cheaper but hopefully not horrible. Read some folks dissing it online...

That is awesome info, thanks much. Is the Microsoft site the only place that one can do the download-method of purchasing windows? Naturally I am wondering if somewhere I can save an additional $20 ... But that price difference is probably worth it to do it thru Microsoft and not a sketchy website...

comment Can iCal scroll by week in month view?
good tip. I knew of that application, but then forgot about it. I have really been loving Fantastical, but that serves a different purpose -- a very handy pop-down-from-the-top-menu interface with natural language input

I always wondered who used week numbers. is it a thing that accounting people are into?

comment What un(der)-documented features have you stumbled upon in Mountain Lion?
yeah, you should delete this item or re-word it. the feature is there and in fact uses more clarity in its wording -- if charging the text makes it clear that it's the duration until fully charged; if using the battery, it says "remaining."

comment How to I access documents saved in iCloud with Mountain Lion on my iOS device
I gotta say, iCloud seems to grow very gradually. With regards to peoples' document workflows, it is not really very usable for most people (unless you are a die-hard iWork user, I suppose.)

Heh -- thank you very much. Perhaps it was dumb of me, but I'm sure glad for the info -- eric

comment Is it possible for a mobile phone manufacturer (other than apple) to make their phone sync with iTunes and iCal?
Cool. Thanks! So to rephrase, I guess the answer is "there is not some software or hardware or encryption block that apple uses to prevent it. Furthermore it seems that there is no licensing law that apple can use to legally prevent it (otherwise it seems the two quotes above would have been less mild and tolerant, they would instead have simply used injunctions) ... Seems apple's only real method against these third-party folks is instead simply the threat of adjusting the iTunes etc. software to introduce incompatibility."

comment Keyboard shortcut to prevent login items from loading but still allow extensions
Actually, of course, I went and tried to confirm it myself (it was silly of me to ask you to confirm it.) When I did as you said, and hit shift RIGHT after I typed my password+enter, and waited, it seems good. Didn't load the startup items. But I realize that I can't even remember how to confirm if "extensions" were not loaded. Now that I'm actually thinking of it, I haven't seen "extensions" for a long time, before OS X in fact! Do extensions still EXIST? Perhaps my whole question above is silly since my computer is OS X Lion and extensions are a thing of the past?

since you're talking about the same "shift" key -- can you confirm, your method allows the "extensions" but locks out the "login items"? (seems that way, but wanted to confirm. Thanks!!)

OK, learned more and found a solution, which I've posted as "answer." By using this solution, I realize that in my case I am causing a lot of the traffic on my devices to go only through 802.11 b/g, which is sad to think that I am forgoing the benefits of N. but at least I'm getting connected on all my devices...

comment known iOS mail bug? The inbox skips over displaying hundreds of messages (IF inbox has >500 messages or so)
aha... my first guess would be that that choice of 'all inboxes' takes the number of emails over the same "too much" amount that is causing the bug for me. To me this is a big bug... I mean, a lot of us have folders or inboxes with more than 500-600 emails, right? I keep all old email, and I don't painstakingly subcategorize them. Hope this gets fixed!!

comment is the iPod Touch less able to connect to Airport WDS wifi network repeaters than an iPad? Kindle also doesn't want to!
HOWEVER, your experiment demonstrated something interesting. When I went over to ANOTHER of my satellite routers, it DID report that it saw the network (with an appropriate, strong signal) -- but this satellite that "worked" is in fact my OLD airport express, which is only a 802.11g, and not the nice newer 802.11n ones that are in the more important zones. Seems that somehow my iTouch is wanting to talk to "g" routers when using WDS?? Can I configure the newer Express satellites to have a mode friendlier to "g"-hungry clients? Thanks for this help! [you should post as 'answers,' not comments!]
