My Macbook reached 100 degrees Celsius while compiling a software package, is this normal? Does "Thermal Junction" mean its maximum temperature? If so, I've seen it hit about that when rendering video. Should it hit its maximum? Can that damage the CPU? |

What's the fastest way to get data off Time Capsule and onto an external drive? In AirPort Utility 6, they removed the Archive function (the mind of Apple, who knows why). You will need to install 5.6 in order to carry on using this function. v6 and 5.6 can live side by side on your Mac. Download it here: support.apple.com/kb/dl1482 |

How dangerous is it to hot-plug FireWire 400 devices? Interesting... I assumed that the dodgy controller chips would be on cheap PCs, not MacBooks! Fortunately it is no longer an issue for me as I have upgraded from 1st gen MacBook to MacBook Pro Retina, so I'm going from Thunderbolt to FW800 to FW400... I guess that should avoid hot-swapping issues! |

Why does Back To My Mac work for my Time Capsule, but not my MacBook? Thanks to the troubleshooting, I have discovered that my office network has "Double NAT" (support.apple.com/kb/TS1208) - two levels of NAT, which apparently can mean that some machines will show up but not connect (exactly what I am getting). I guess I will have to contact my network administrator and ask them if there's anything they can do about that (I guess not, which is a big shame). If they can't, am I all out of options? |

What is the best way to convert MPEG-2 videos to MP4 H.264? Only just getting round to looking into HandBrakeCLI! I'm a bit confused as to how to install it... I tried copying it into my Applications folder and then calling it within terminal, but it just says "No manual entry for HandBrakeCLI" |

What is the best way to convert MPEG-2 videos to MP4 H.264? It's a nice idea… It would avoid any transcoding and would mean I could store perfect copies of my DVDs for playback. Unfortunately, I own a 3rd gen Apple TV and I don't think it's jailbreak-able (yet?). Ultimately I would prefer something that would run through iTunes, that way I can store and search for everything in the same place. |

Is there a way to limit the size of the Trash? Agree with the comment above... Although this is a nice script, in practise it deletes stuff by its modified date. Therefore, if I trash a folder of old stuff now and then run the script straight after, most of the stuff from that folder is deleted. Would be good if we could find a parameter for the date deleted on the file. |

What is the best way to convert MPEG-2 videos to MP4 H.264? That's a very good suggestion and believe it or not, I haven't tried it yet! Couple of things though... I believe MPEG StreamClip technically uses QuickTime for its compression, so I would guess the results would be the same as that (interlacing kept, but colours washed-out)... And secondly, although QuickTimes Player 7 is free, you need to pay for a license to convert and export: store.apple.com/us/product/D3380Z/A/… |

In Xcode 4.3, where do I put the additional tools? Hopefully they will include them in the Downloads section of Preferences in the near future! |
