comment Terminal.app ignores ~/.profile file settings
Problem solved. The link you provided was really helpful. It turned out that .bash_login was executed instead of my .profile file. .bash_login was created as a result of Ruby Version Manger (rvm) installation on my machine.

@Martín: Extended attributes for profile file are: com.apple.FinderInfo 32 and com.apple.TextEncoding 15. Dunno what it means. The content of the file has not changed and was working so far...

comment Methods to install X11 on Lion
The build mentioned by @NReilingh also works for me. The build is 2.6.11 for Leopard.

@NReilingh: you mean 2.6.11 for Leopard but from the site you mention? Can you post a direct link for GIMP that works for you on Lion?

comment OS X Lion suppresses user's settings for the keyboard backlight
You probably refer to keyboard's "Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light" setting, which I have disabled, so I have control over keyboard illumination with F5/F6 - it's just it seems Lion doesn't save levels of illumination properly. Thank you for your input anyway :)

It's both - a requirement and preference (mostly stay up to date with latest tools for iOS dev, productivity etc.). Anyway, I you're right about setting up AID for IT and run it through their dept. Thanks!

@Mark: The company owns the MBP, so it will own the OS licence as well. Or maybe I can own the OS licence, but how I take it with me when e.g. I leave the company?

comment Is it possible to have different font sizes for editing and message actually sent?
Shame on me I didn't try checking out what would be seen at the other end. MessageFont seems great, but too expensive IMO. Thank you for your answer!
