comment No entry sign on MacBook pro when installing snow leopard from 'new' disc onto new HD
Reconsidering my previous comment: I recall inquiring about refurbed iMacs offered with 10.7+ that would, in their day, have been 10.6 capable, but which Apple Tech Support confirmed to me on the phone could no longer be downgraded. Their specific advice was, "If it is delivered with Lion/Mountain Lion, it would no longer be compatible with Snow Leopard."

Glad to help. Now I'm curious - which one solved it?

Correct but it is a possibility worth considering.

revised How to use different mailboxes (sent folder) in Outlook for Mac
Changed MAC to Mac - not pedantry; it just doesn't make sense as Media Access Control.

comment Applescript to compare two lists of domains and eliminate duplicates
Yes, open a Terminal and go to the folder where the files are located (with cd foldername (assumes the folder is in your home directory). Then copy and paste Lauri's command into the terminal and press Enter. If you were going do to this often, you'd write a shell-script file with that command (the details of doing that are a bit beyond a comment in this thread).

comment Will it work well to use a .dmg as an encrypted folder?
BTW, this works with any other volume; putting a .metadata_never_index file in the root of e.g., an external HDD or flash drive, works to prevent it being indexed as well.

A quick way to do that is to run this terminal command while your disk is mounted: touch /Volumes/NameOfYourDMGVolume/.metadata_never_index. That will create an empty file that Spotlight will see and know not to index the volume.

Interesting solution. But we could only propose pros and cons; only Apple could tell you their reasons (and they aren't likely to).
