comment MacBook VPN connection disconnects after two minutes
Anything in the system log? Open Console in the Utilities directory. Select FILES, system.log in the left pane, and type 'pppd' in the search box. The right pane will show the log messages for VPN connections.

comment Is there any way to get rid of the sound made when a screenshot is created?
Under Snow Leopard, this disabled the screen-shot sound only in Grab. It had no effect on the built-in screen-shot (Cmd-Shift-4).

comment Battery on white MacBook shuts off abruptly after 30% charge is left
The calibration process I'm talking about involves a complete charge, discharge, and re-charge. I don't see how that would be doable in less than half a day. Are we talking about the same process?

comment repaired disk/permissions, now imac won't boot into login
Most advice I read concerning fsck suggests that it's a poor idea to run it on a mounted file system because the FS can change underneath it, and that it won't fix any errors in that case. Thus, my recommendation for running it in single-user mode. See hintsforums.macworld.com/archive/index.php/t-2666.html , for example; or Google 'fsck multi-user' for others.
