“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

I would be using the network exclusively for access outside of the hotel or client: cloud, mail, Web, etc. Some networks will require a password though, if that matters.

Will I still be able to use arbitrary networks (e.g., wifi in a client's conference room; hotel wifi) if I block netbiosd incoming connections?

So is it safe to say that if I have no Windows machines there will be no consequences? Also: I don't recall ever setting this; could it somehow have happened automatically?

Thanks! My old group was rax, which is my user name (both 501). Is there any reason to preserve that by adding myself back as a member of the rax group (though not as primary). Without doing so will I still have access to all files with rax:rax permissions?

Where it says just "Group"? Is there a way to do it from the command line?

@GordonDavisson: If forgot, at first, to substitute your user name for andrew (as I did!) — that's exactly what you want.

If you're like me, then you'll need this: sudo dscl . delete /users/andrew.

Link to partial answer: when and why are still unclear?

@Mark: Good point. I followed these (same) instructions, which mentioned ML explicitly.

Remove run-on to focus.

Note that staff isn't even a group I'm in (I'm in admin). I'm not sure what the implications of that are, or who ends up in that group.

Yes, I've had to do other things to secure the drives, but was wondering if there was anything useful that the permissions were doing to. Clearly not. Presumably the same is true for network access?
