comment Can Mac Mini Support 4k Monitor
Loomy, I apologize for not being clearer. No, it won't happen. What I am talking about is theoretical, and may well require custom hardware modification. No one anywhere, including Intel, has done it. And Apple would say to just buy a new Mac.

comment Can you run a 4k monitor at 30hz with a late 2011 MBA?
Apple's documentation is clear about what their implementation allows, but it is not necessarily a hard physical limit. Given that TBolt 2 supports 4k @ 60, TBolt 1's throughput is theoretically sufficient to run 4k @ 30. Of course, the semantic distinction between "supported" and "possible" is moot for most end users.

Hmm. This presentation says otherwise. Perhaps there is a 2x difference between theoretical and actual performance?

@bmike, Disagree. My 2GB 10.6 Mac shows kernel-task using 135MB active RAM, whereas my 8GB 10.8 Mac showed kernel-task over 700MB. Just to be sure, I rebooted, and immediately after boot it's at 650MB. Plus all the daemons you mention.
