Wow, thanks for this. You know, I think it worked. I still don't see my high-lights showing up. But at least it is remembering my last read-position. Over the weekend, I'll clean-up kindle and try again...will post my findings.

Hello Tom, I played with TextWrangler cycling through different encodings, when I open with Latin-1 the file looks fine. I'm really confused though...because I after playing around with it, I saved the file as UTF-8 (just to see what happens) and now I can open it in TextEdit and looks fine. So can I convert the file to UTF-8 without losing anything?
