It seems (contrary to what the docs suggest) that __KeyToKey__ KeyCode::COMMAND_L, KeyCode::OPTION_L will always override KeyCode::Q, VK_COMMAND | ModifierFlag::NONE. I was actually able to get it working with the counterintuitive __KeyToKey__ KeyCode::Q, VK_OPTION | ModifierFlag::NONE, KeyCode::Q, VK_COMMAND | ModifierFlag::NONE, at the END. If you have a better solution, let me know. Or just update your answer with that, and I'll accept for the assist.

I tried that after reading the docs, but it doesn't seem to work. I updated the question to include the full XML I'm using.

Maybe that's as close as I'll get, but what I was looking for was the ability to toggle between L:1/R:2 and L:2/R:3 (as opposed to L:1/R:3 and L:2/R:3). Or for a 4-screen/2-display config: L:1/R:2, L:2/R:3, and L:3/R:4, and so on. The idea is that the screens are static relative to each other, and the N-display window would also stay fixed as it slides across views.

comment How do I enable/disable push notifications for an app on iOS 7?
This doesn't handle the in-between case where you want to receive notifications when the app is running, but not otherwise.

comment Mail app 7.0: what does “Check for new messages” “Automatically” actually do?
I saw that MacWorld article, and I think it's flat out wrong. At least for Exchange servers, push email requires ActiveSync, which would be a very big deal if supported by Apple Mail because Outlook for Mac doesn't even support it.
