comment Can I configure and start TIme Machine from the commandLine
Thanks for this comprehensive answer, however Ive now found an easier way round by Gui problems by toggling to Mouse Keys (by pressing OPtion key 5 times) I can simulate a mouse click with Cntl-I so I'll probably configure TimeMachine with Gui after all.

comment Can I configure Accessbility settings using Terminal instead of Preferences Panel
Thankyou that did work, but then I found I couln't type anything in, apparently a side effect of using mouse keys without having a numeric keyboard. However I then found that pressing Option key 5 times toggles between Mouse Keys On/Off so I can just toggle on whenever I need to do a mouse click, thanks. I also enabled Speakable items but canot get that working, Ive also checked my trackpad settings but there is nothing wrong with my settings my trackpad just fails to work.

Eventually after considerable clicking attempts on trackpad I got the OSX update to apply, but unfortunately it has made no difference and the problem persists in both normal and safe mode.

Oh man, I had this idea of both disabling the trackpad in Asseccisibility and of enablign voice activated commands but in both cases there seems to be no way of changing these values with my broken mouse/trackpad setup

Made some sort of progress, when using a 3button mouse, the right button works, brings up popmenus ectera, and the middle button (which I never usually use) also seems to work in that it lets me select items brough up in popupmenus, but unfortunately the left clik button never works. So in App Store I can start Update, by right clicking on the button and then using middle button, but unfortunately when I get to the agreement dialog, none of the button will let me select the Agree button
