comment Possible to backup External Disk to Time Capsule regardless which machine it's connected to?
Apparently not well described since this is not the question that I asked. I'm fully aware it's possible to backup two different macs to the same Time Capsule. The question is whether it's possible to backup up one external disk, attached to either of two macs to one Time Capsule, without replicating the data of the external disk.

comment Is it possible to disable forced monospace in Terminal.app?
I have custom modified a monospaced font to include half width spaces which allow me to center things more precisely. I know it's extremely nitpicky, but after I went to all the trouble of editing the font and getting good display in my editor, it was a let down to not have the same effect in the terminal.

comment How does Font Book.app determine the “Design style” for a Smart Collection?
Could you go into a bit more detail? I've read about some of the various OpenType tables but haven't grokked which tables would indicate that a font is monospaced for example.

I can confirm, pmset in Mavericks doesn't accept powerbutton arguments.

comment Can I extend Alfred with a command-line program to clean up the desktop?
Putting that together so it's useable from the commandline you'd want osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to clean up window of desktop by name'

I was going to suggest an osascript like tell application "Finder" to clean up the desktop but ran into problems with the clean up verb with the desktop object... apparently it only works on windows :(. Here's a bunch of suggestions for scripts that could probably be turned into osascript arguments discussions.apple.com/thread/416256?start=0&tstart=0

comment How to locate a file in Spotlight using folder and file name?
Note, there is no single file requirement for xargs open you can pipe a list of files and it will open every one. This can be useful or dangerous. You can also specify an application to open them with (if it doesn't already have a command line equivalent) with open -a appname

One thing I should add, locate is driven from the locatedb which needs to be periodically updated. Apparently this maintenance has been removed from the scripts that it ran in prior to 10.6, you may need to enable it like this sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.locate.plist osxdaily.com/2011/11/02/…
