comment Wifi Keeps Dropping Macbook Pro 13in Retina Early 2015
I do not think this is a problem with the Wifi-connection but with the routing tables.

comment Cannot ping between OS X on wireless LAN
I occasionally see the same under 10.11.3. Turning off Wifi and immediately turning it on again helps.

Do you know why these three files were the one to delete?

I have if not the same, so a very similar problem. I use a 1TB Time Capsule cabled to the ISP modem as wifi access point.

Try giving it more time before giving up on the boot process.

comment MacBook Pro 2008 stuck in OS X Mavericks installation
Reformat the drive and try again. You may also benefit from resetting PRAM (magic keystroke when booting) as that solved a situation for me where my machine - after a previously interrupted installation - did not complete correctly.

comment Why the different results for ping? Or why is the Time Capsule getting involved?
Time Capsule Can act as a sleep proxy for macs.

comment Incompatible Software for next OSX?
To elaborate, I would create a scenario where your "outer" operating system would be the latest OS X your hardware could run. The "inner" operating system would then handle the few applications in your known setup that you could not run on the outside. You may also consider screen sharing instead with your new mac. Then you can essentially work on your old machine across the network if needed.

comment Is VMware Fusion 5.0.5 compatible with OS X El Capitan?
One of the upgrades to OS X explicitly disabled my vmware fusion installation. As vmware did not offer a cheap upgrade for existing customers, I went with virtualbox instead.

As VM host software needs to mess with kernel things rather intimately your best bet is to always assume that they will need to be upgraded when upgrading OS X:

You should be able to install Snow Leopard in a VM and restore your time machine backup into it, to easily migrate it inside as you would if you had your computer replaced by a new piece of hardware. You will need a virtual machine manager which explicitly allows you to install OS X.

comment Can I modify a terminal command to do additional stuff?
@fd0 I am not doubting that aliases did not work. I'm asking why. There might be a simpler solution to the problem.

comment What would happen if I force installed a Linux driver into Mac OS X?
Pretty much the same as would happen if you forced the Windows drivers into OS X... The kernel API's are different and it will not work.
