comment How to force a readonly volume to remount as read-write?
I looked up NAS and it sounded like you had some sort of machine that let you attach drives to it and then see them as network devices, so in other words, not something I could do. Thanks for responding.

I'm having a pretty similar problem... can you describe the steps in your solution?

comment How can I delete files in recovery mode using Terminal on my OS X main partition?
You'd think this would work but it does not. See my question: apple.stackexchange.com/questions/221964/…

comment Xcode failed to download, use the purchases page to try again
Not useful. Now my Mac thinks it installed the XCode update and it hasn't installed it. It's stuck in "waiting" forever.

comment Reset Mac OS X bluetooth service?
Would like to note two things: first of all, in version 4.3.0 of this software (the most recent version), the way to find this menu is Tools -> Modify Software & Device Configuration, or Cmd-Shift-U. Secondly, if your problem, like mine, is that your paired devices are refusing to connect, this will not do anything to help you, since your devices aren't connected. Upon restart my devices connected, which is good, but that was only because I restarted my computer. The devices should have been forgotten, but weren't, because this only works on connected devices.

comment Reset Safari from command line
Aye, I can find it now. But my warning still stands, as Apple does in fact change the location of settings all the time.

This is no longer true in Yosemite, there's no such folder for me. Apple changes this sort of thing on a per-build basis so I wouldn't count on it.

comment Creating A Bootable USB Of Windows 8.1 On OS X?
This does not work. These are the same instructions that Ubuntu posts on their site for making a live USB and there have been several questions on superuser about this process not working.

comment Is Macintosh System Software 1.0 (Classic MacOS) Free?
@mmk These things are often called "abandonware" because the company no longer cares what people do with the software, licensed or not. I believe System 7 was "released" in this way, since you can run it in an emulator in your browser.

comment What happens if I buy a paid game while it's free?
You may think of purchasing apps as adding a license to use them to your account; when an app is presented gratis, you get the license gratis.

Thanks for the TOC. Someone else has already suggested the book, though.

comment Where can I find a comprehensive and detailed technical software manual for OS X?
I appreciate the suggestion - however, that book is actually elementary for me. I consider myself competent in Unix. It's a good starter book, definitely.
