comment How do I type a Greek delta with a circumflex?
∆̂ <= Well, actually it does work here (at least with whatever font my browser uses to render this site). I just had the wrong order in my previous comment. Do ALT-k first, then switch to Unicode Hex Input, then hold down ALT and while you hold it down type 0302. It looks dispaced in the comment textarea, but once you save, it displays fine.

comment How do I type a Greek delta with a circumflex?
On my Mac, I cannot get the circumflex to properly align in any font (including Cambria) in Word. In TextEdit I can align it in any font that I tried (except Cambria, where it is slightly off to the left). I guess my best option is to include a note, a high resolution image of the intended look, and an in-text placeholder, when I submit my manuscript, and leave the typesetting to the typesetter of the publisher.

Oh, works with Unicod Hex input: ̂∆. Edit: Ah, well, not here, obviously.

Thank you. Can you explain what you typed and in which order? I cannot get this to work. All I get are a circumflex and delta side by side: ^∆.

comment SelfControl not blocking anything
I edited the quesion. SC 2.0 and 1.5 both have that problem. I went to the Guest Account, but cannot set up a block there as the current block is still running there, too. Yes, this site should be blocked right now! Every now and then it is blocked, but then I can access it again ...

comment Automaticallly sync select folders between two Macs over LAN
Actually with "automatically" I just meant two-way syncing of new, edited and deleted files. My computers aren't always on, nor connected, so scheduled syncing wouldn't work for me. Sorry for the unclear choice of word. I want to look at iBackup soon.

This is a good idea if your computers are stationary or your hard drive is light and small enough to travel with you.

comment What OS X and iOS software combination tracks finances?
I was annoyed at the behavior of YNAB. Now that I read it's Adobe Air, I understand what's wrong with it. I'll try MoneyWiz. For me your answer was the most helpful, because: Yes, good usability is good interface design. Ugly just don't work for me.

comment Software to track income and spending on OS X and Android
I'm not in the US (nor Canada) and cannot use Mint. I need software that does not require a US bank account.

comment Ordered list with capital letters in PowerPoint?
No, I have to apologize. I uploaded the graphic after your answer. And, like you, I just didn't think that the options would differ between languages.

PowerPoint does not provide an option to number a list with uppercase letters. I wouldn't have asked a question here, if it did.

Thank you, but no, I have to study :-)

It is VERY MUCH easier to have willpower in the quick moment I leave the house, than have to have it all day long. So it is much more likely that I'll leave the USB stick at home than it is that I don't use Spotlight to find an invisible app. The best method to exercise self-control is to avoid situations where you need it.

lol, usually when I ask something straightforward without explaining the context there is a lot of back and forth about why doing what I want is not a good idea or what else I might do for what people think I want to achieve :-) Thanks for trying to help me!

comment How to easily and completely disable/enable WLAN (so it cannot be turned on again while travelling)?
Your answers don't work for me and are not what I'm asking for. Note that my question includes the word "deinstall", while the other questions don't. I had a Windows laptop and there simply deleted the software that did the WiFi connection. No more WLAN for me and no way to reinstall it while not at home. Foolproof. And with software like Firefox, you can copy your app to a different HD, delete it from your computer, later copy it back and run it as if it was never gone. Maybe something similar is possible for WLAN. That's what I'm asking for.

That doesn't work, because I have memorized the login credentials (they are the same for all electronic services and everyone knows theirs by heart). If I delete the login credentials, I can re-enter them in a matter of seconds.

This worked. But let's just assume I actually wanted the behavior described above, how would I set Calendar to behave that way?

comment What is creating a file with the name “1” in my user folder after I delete it repeatedly?
I no longer have OS 10.6.8, and I never managed to catch the creation of the file, because I forgot or was too lazy to start up fs_usage, but I accept this as the right answer, because it seems that it should have worked with a more diligent user than me :-)

comment MacBookAir 11" - WiFi not connecting in Europe
I used to have timeout errors for the first day with my new MacBook, too. I was able to connect after disabling auto and choosing one network as preferred network, I believe. Experiment with those options.
