Yup, that should work fine.

comment Something keeps waking up my Mac, how do I find out what it is?
Also: I had one of these machines (2006 model, first generation, MacPro1,1) and then replaced it with a 2009 model (first Nehalem generation, MacPro4,1). The 2009 model does sound like a jet engine for a few seconds every time it wakes from sleep -- I know well the phenomenon you're describing -- my 2006 model didn't do that though; that one could wake up from sleep without running the fans full speed.

FWIW I think the actual power consumption numbers for the 1st-generation quad-core Mac Pro are about 300W full-bore, but closer to 100W powered on under a light load (what it spends most of its time doing if you're not intentionally taxing it) and under 10W asleep.

Wow, thanks for that. I (thought I) knew about pmset's -g option, but "pmset -g log" is a whole new world, and hugely useful. That just enabled me to solve my problem. Kudos.

You're mostly right, but you form a misleading conclusion. Nobody's asking for a way to redistribute the primary wifi-connection over a secondary wi-fi connection hosted by the same machine. What people are asking for is software for Mac OS that accomplishes what Connectify+Win7 do, namely, virtualize the wifi device to present multiple adapters, use one as primary and then use the second one to redistribute the primary, in your terminology.

comment how to force sync of calendars on iPhone?
This worked for me; unfortunately it means losing any local modifications (on the phone that haven't been synced). So if the reason you need to force a sync is because you've made changes on the phone that haven't synced to the cloud, this trick won't help.

I don't know if this refresh button is supposed to refresh the calendars themselves, or just the list of calendars (what's on the same screen as that refresh button). My iPhone stopped syncing my Google calendar completely -- updates stopped syncing in both directions -- and this refresh button didn't help.

Unfortunately, a lot of apps don't fit onscreen or resize nicely to 960x540. The displays prefpane applet warns you about this if you switch to any resolution less (in either direction) than ye olde 1024x768, and it's right... and unless you've got a cinema display, all the HiDPI resolutions are indeed less than 1024x768.
