comment Can I prevent a remote Mac from entering sleep via a remote ssh connection?
I don't have time to write this as a full answer, but caffeinate is a command-line tool built-in to 10.8 that can also be used to prevent sleep temporarily.

comment Serial-Ethernet or Serial-WiFi (or Serial-Bluetooth?) on OS X
Yeah, I'm assuming that the networked adapters would only allow one connection at a time just because that's what serial devices expect. They could design something to get around that limitation, but that takes effort to get right and I always assume that hardware manufacturers will do the minimum possible.

That's right, it would be identical to hardwired, as far as the software is concerned (in theory, ethernet/wifi would work the same, but they'd need drivers first). I'm not sure how or if Android handles SPP. Bluetooth would definitely be limited to one device at a time, but I'm not sure ethernet/wifi would allow more than one either, even though NMEA is unidirectional.

comment identify if Filevault is enabled on remote Mac
Not that I know of. If you want to check, you could do a backup with Time Machine, enable/disable FileVault, and then use tmutil compare to see if any relevant-looking files have changed. But there's nothing I'm aware of.

comment Setting up a special secondary display on iMac
DisplayLink is unnecessary here, the iMac has 1 or 2 Thunderbolt ports that can be used as Mini-DisplayPort for external displays. I don't understand the question, it's just a matter of obtaining a display and plugging it in. Mini-DisplayPort adapters are cheap and readily available.

comment Can i use my old MacBook charger on my new Mac?
@octern That's pretty much what happens - I've experienced it too. My Mac is aware of my adapter's wattage (it's shown in System Profiler under Power) and while they don't recommend it, they've obviously designed the power supply to avoid overloading the adapter. I believe it will even draw extra power from the battery if the adapter can't provide enough.

It would be useful to know exactly which model you have, particularly which CPU.

comment Mac mini, two monitors over hdmi and Thunderbolt simultaneously
It'll still need it. Thunderbolt ports can output Mini-Displayport, and they might be able to supply enough power for the adapter, but the adapter won't be designed to take advantage of that.

comment MobileBackups not being backed up
Under normal circumstances, there is no reason whatsoever to delete local snapshots manually. They get deleted automatically when free disk space drops below 20%, and more aggressively when it drops below 10%. That's why Finder excludes them from the display of free space. They're also completely independent of external backups - there was a rumour once that Time Machine would move them to external storage, but that's not true. More about local snapshots
