comment Can I lower the minimum display brightness? How?
@StevenLu I have a macbook pro and in the Ubuntu partition I indeed can set backlight brightness with much more control than on OS X. I have even made a small widget for that. Sad that for OS X things can't be so simple.

comment How to prevent MacVim from inherenting .profile as if it was Bash itself?
I'm selecting this as an answer since it address the problem for MacVim although I'll keep employing my solution which fits better for my intentions.

by debugging I choosed to start using $TERM_PROGRAM instead of $BASH_VERSION in OS X now, this one works.

does that means I have to first clear the partition before the clean install? or is it safe to just overwrite current installation if there's such option.

comment MBP Headphone Jack Doesn't Work in OS X but does in Windows
@ahruss I think it's somewhat related behavior sadly, like for the same hardware design reasons I tell.

@jaberg only apple can solve this by designing a hardware that's not so error prone, only them. Or, at last, providing software options that empower the user in respect to such delicate design, by enabling them to handle the dual-mode in software instead of letting the control of it solely in hands of an oscillating hardware, that even seems to not welcome non apple headphones, and a hardcoded software. Also, I'm not the kind of person that lives in a box and follow religion to get things done. The functions of my hardware are pretty fine now, that's what matters at the end of the day.

reports of solutions for this goes from cleaning it up, to replacing the logic board.

@jaberg because it may be that (as a great amount of people that you can just browse the web and find) fiddling with a toothpick may be getting too repetitive, may be not working once for good... when I got this, I've looked around the web and just gave up reading the reports... I lived with OS X for months this way, I've known that fiddling with a toothpick would just turn matters worse in the long term (not to mention how I felt ridiculous doing that). I've not switched from OS X because of this, it's now working as expected just as a byproduct of the switch.

Even if downvoted, look that, this is the only answer that's actually trying to provide an actual response to the question: why.
