Originally a Linux user in the pre-Ubuntu days, I switched to Mac OS because I wanted a commercial OS that still played well with others. For my daily-driver, I've never turned back :)

comment How do I put music not eligible for iCloud on my iPhone without turning off iTunes Match?
It it were me, I'd use Audacity or some other audio editor to break the monolithic track up into sub tracks and create a custom album. On the song options, I'd probably select part of a gapless album.

@kobame, maybe the point of the question and this additional information should've been included in your original question. The first line in your question referred to a long running script. I assumed it wasn't interactive which led to the reference to nohup.

comment In terminal, running top, info extends past the view of the window
patrix answer is spot on. I highly recommend htop. It's available in MacPorts and other alt package managers. It's colorized and is packed with view options. It resizes based on your window and allows scrolling in the vertical an horizontal directions. You'll never you top again :)

While I don't think character viewer is useful sustained use of special chars, it's always on for me as it is super handy for entering the occasional special character.

As an aside, have you looked into a database driven application for PDF's and other documents? Papers is a nice one. If this is a routine operation for you, something of this nature will simplify the workflow.
