comment I Would Like To Host an HTML Website Without Using Server.app
I was able to get my website hosted through Apache after searching. I turned off the Websites service in the Server App. I still use the Server App for DNS maintenance. I was able to implement postgres.app successfully with a few modifications to my Ruby on Rails applications. There appears to be no conflict at this point.

comment Would Like To Use my Time Capsule as my Main Router Instead of my NVG589
I gave up on this. I got tired with trying to figure out the issue with losing the DHCP. I had started having problems with my TV service as well. I called AT&T about it when the modem restarted on its own. They replaced my NVG589 modem with the 3801HGV type modem I had for 4 1/2 years. I'm able to host websites and do web browsing as before with great ease. I'm glad to be rid of the NVG589 modem. I only had it 6 months with experiencing problems most of the time even at the default factory settings.

I may try turning on DHCP in the server app. I have not had to use it before. Maybe it will solve the problem.

I'm still having problems with losing the DHCP. It has happened 4 times since my last comment. Sigh. I have no idea how to fix this.

@douggro, I was able to get the MAC address of the Time Capsule from the router page. It appears that the instructions worked since when I went into the Time Capsule it knew the public IP address. I'm not sure where the DHCP was getting lost. I did get an alert in the server app about this. It's the first time in 4 years I've seen this. I decided to delete and recreate the Ethernet entry on my Mac Mini server to see if I have problems with losing the DHCP. If I don't lose the DCHP I will try this again and post my results. I will also run Netstat as well. Thanks so much for your help!

I was able to successfully set up the IP Passthrough. However I'm having problems with setting up the Time Capsule. It shows the public IP for the router properly but sometimes that IP changes into an IP address starting with 169.254.. I read that this is a link local ip that is set when DHCP is not working properly. I got a notice in server app stating that the ip of my host was changed. I have no idea where to go from here except figure out what DHCP is not working properly then come back to this. So many REALLY OLD solutions found but nothing that I understand on how to fix this.

These instructions work well. However I'm having a challenge with the changes to make in the Time Capsule. I will post my comments on @columb's answer. Thanks again!

Technically the instructions above posted by @douggro are to get up IP passthrough set up on the NVG589 modem. There is no nice selection to set it to Bridge Mode like on the Time Capsule. I will change it to DHCP and NAT and see if that works. If not I will try DHCP. I will post my results.

Those are the instructions I'm looking at. I wanted to make sure how to change the address. Point 3 was unclear. Your explanation makes sense. Glad to know they will work. I will check out @columb's answer. The instructions make sense but could not figure out how to update the Time Capsule. Thanks!

comment I Would Like To Host an HTML Website Without Using Server.app
I want to stop using Server.app because I'm using the PostgreSQL database for my Ruby on Rails applications. Using the built-in PostgreSQL requires that I use the Server.app which turns on the database. I have had database problems with corrupting or destroying my databases with server.app upgrades. Other solutions require that only one active PostgreSQL data can exist. I asked this question because I could not find complete examples for hosting html websites in Apache. I will look again. I'm sure the parameters are not much different than what I use to host my RoR apps Phusion Passenger.

I already have the domain set up to point to my server. I know how to create the virtual host entries for Phusion Passenger entries for my Ruby on Rails applications. My guess is that I need to go to /etc/apache2/httpd.conf as mentioned by @sdmeyers below instead of the server app configuration file. I just need help on how to create the virtual host entry for the html website in /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf.

comment /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.servermgrd.plist Is Missing - Causing postgres to not start properly
I went back to Mavericks because I had way more problems with Yosemite. Thankfully I did not lost many updates. I will see if I need to use the Server app for anything. The one thing I need to figure out is how to host a plain html5 website without using the Web Server in the Server app. If I can figure that out I will not use it and install Postgres.app. Since it looks like a lot of work to use the built in postgreSQL when I upgrade to Yosemite I will not use it. I have saved this link just in case I change my mind. Thanks for the info.

I'm using PostgreSQL databases in my Ruby on Rails applications. I just restored both my servers back to the last backup using Mavericks. I have since found that there is another problem with Yosemite deleting or not converting PostgreSQL databases. I'm sticking with Maverick on my servers for now until I am successful in using postgres.app or another way to install another installation of PostgreSQL. Glad I only had one record that was not updated before I did my restore.

comment What Is The Path Where Apache Is Located?
I just checked. The only folders in /private/etc/apache2 are extra, original, other and users. None of them have a mods-available folder. I also did a search but did not find mods-available. Can I create a folder named mods-available and proceed?

comment I Cannot Access PostgreSQL At Times After Server App Upgrade
Glad to know that your solution did not break the Web Service. However I decided to restore my servers to the backup right before I upgraded the Server App. I lost very little data thankfully. After this experience I have decided to figure out how to install another version of PostgreSQL to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Craig Ringer posted a link in his response which gives three ways to accomplish this. codefellows.org/blog/….

comment I Cannot Access PostgreSQL At Times After Server App Upgrade
I currently use the Web Service to host a website in addition to using their PostgreSQL instance for databases used in my Ruby on Rails applications. I saw this solution before. I was reluctant to do it because of concerned that it would mess up any Apple functions using the database. From what I remember several options in the Server app use PostgreSQL including the Web Service. Please add info about if this solution was successful for people using the Web Service or other services in the Server app that use PostgreSQL.
