I will. Thanks to you and @sdmeyers.

comment I Would Like To Host an HTML Website Without Using Server.app
I want to stop using Server.app because I'm using the PostgreSQL database for my Ruby on Rails applications. Using the built-in PostgreSQL requires that I use the Server.app which turns on the database. I have had database problems with corrupting or destroying my databases with server.app upgrades. Other solutions require that only one active PostgreSQL data can exist. I asked this question because I could not find complete examples for hosting html websites in Apache. I will look again. I'm sure the parameters are not much different than what I use to host my RoR apps Phusion Passenger.

I already have the domain set up to point to my server. I know how to create the virtual host entries for Phusion Passenger entries for my Ruby on Rails applications. My guess is that I need to go to /etc/apache2/httpd.conf as mentioned by @sdmeyers below instead of the server app configuration file. I just need help on how to create the virtual host entry for the html website in /etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf.

comment /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.servermgrd.plist Is Missing - Causing postgres to not start properly
I went back to Mavericks because I had way more problems with Yosemite. Thankfully I did not lost many updates. I will see if I need to use the Server app for anything. The one thing I need to figure out is how to host a plain html5 website without using the Web Server in the Server app. If I can figure that out I will not use it and install Postgres.app. Since it looks like a lot of work to use the built in postgreSQL when I upgrade to Yosemite I will not use it. I have saved this link just in case I change my mind. Thanks for the info.

comment /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.servermgrd.plist Is Missing - Causing postgres to not start properly
I'm using PostgreSQL databases in my Ruby on Rails applications. I just restored both my servers back to the last backup using Mavericks. I have since found that there is another problem with Yosemite deleting or not converting PostgreSQL databases. I'm sticking with Maverick on my servers for now until I am successful in using postgres.app or another way to install another installation of PostgreSQL. Glad I only had one record that was not updated before I did my restore.

comment What Is The Path Where Apache Is Located?
I just checked. The only folders in /private/etc/apache2 are extra, original, other and users. None of them have a mods-available folder. I also did a search but did not find mods-available. Can I create a folder named mods-available and proceed?

I will try it. It looks like it may be easier to implement then using Homebrew.

Glad to know that your solution did not break the Web Service. However I decided to restore my servers to the backup right before I upgraded the Server App. I lost very little data thankfully. After this experience I have decided to figure out how to install another version of PostgreSQL to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Craig Ringer posted a link in his response which gives three ways to accomplish this. codefellows.org/blog/….

comment I Cannot Access PostgreSQL At Times After Server App Upgrade
I currently use the Web Service to host a website in addition to using their PostgreSQL instance for databases used in my Ruby on Rails applications. I saw this solution before. I was reluctant to do it because of concerned that it would mess up any Apple functions using the database. From what I remember several options in the Server app use PostgreSQL including the Web Service. Please add info about if this solution was successful for people using the Web Service or other services in the Server app that use PostgreSQL.

comment I Cannot Access PostgreSQL At Times After Server App Upgrade
I gave up and did a system restore using the backup right before I installed the server app. Thankfully I did not have a lot of database changes that were lost. I have done my last server app update for a while. I have taken backups and will look at postgres.app. Thanks again!

Point well taken about the backups. I normally take manual backups when updates happen on the database. From time to time I have tried to find software to take automated backups of PostgreSQL but could not find a lot of feedback about the few programs I found. Most of the info is several years old. I tried the psql command using sudo and adding my username but got the same error. It is pointing to the old socket. Even if I change the plist to the unix settings mentioned I still get the same error. I wonder if something broke in Server app when they switched to the new PostgreSQL.
