Don't trust every answer I've accepted. This system incentivizes accepting of wrong or incomplete answers to old questions just to get my acceptance rate up and get answers to my more recent questions. ...so that's what I do. :(

comment How can I get the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro volume control to work?
Are you asking about volume controls on the X-Fi hardware, or the volume controls on the Mac/Mac OS?

comment Mac OS X Lion Finder Window Size
I'm not able to click on "Use as Defaults" unless I change something other than the window's size. I don't think it's saving window size as a default, just the View Options.

comment Mac OS X Lion Finder Window Size
This would clear out any previous settings, but it does not set the default size. After clearing .DS_Store files, if you open a new Finder window, change the size, and then close it, you get a new .DS_Store for that folder with the window size saved in it, and any new Finder windows opened to that specific folder will retain the window size setting. …but it's still not the default.

I don't know if this ever worked, but it certainly doesn't work now, and not since Leopard, I think. Holding option just resizes from the center of the window; holding shift constrains proportions—just like in Adobe Creative Suite. Yes, resizing a window and closing it causes that folder to remember the size when you open a Finder window to that folder, but holding option has nothing to do with it (and I don't think holding option ever had anything to do with it…).

comment Where did Icon Composer go from Xcode?
Apple sez, "There is no longer a 1024x1024 size. That’s replaced by 512x512@2x," and "Don’t use Icon Composer—it can’t create high-resolution icns files." ...and lastly, "Use iconutil to Create an icns File Manually The iconutil command-line tool converts iconset folders to deployment-ready, high-resolution icns files. (You can find complete documentation for this tool by entering man iconutil in Terminal.)"

comment What are the maximum temperatures for my MacBook Pro?
By trial and emergency-shutdown-error, I think this is about right. I'm usually running Windows when it gets hot, which, without the Mac OS X kernel extension to throttle processing power and keep things cool, the temperature can go up to about 110 C, but more than that and it tends to shut down. Of course, I don't know exactly, because I'm playing games to get it to go that high, not watching the temperature read-out. I keep my temperture warning noise set to 109 C and I usually have enough time to cool things down when I hear the warning go off.

I don't know of a specific app to point you to, but maybe you and Google can work something out knowing it's called a "chroma key" or "chroma keying."

comment Why does running Luxology Modo cause a marked increase in performance for other 3D graphics apps?
To be a little more clear, I don't know why a 3D render would cause the contacts to heat up and expand if a more-intensive 3D game does not. There must be something about Modo specifically, not just intensive use.
