comment What is a good Time Capsule substitute?
My understanding is that the ONLY supported way to use Time Machine over a wireless network is via an Apple Time Capsule. From my experience and research, trying to use Time Machine on a wireless drive/NAS is not only unsupported but extremely unreliable.

comment Downloading voicemail to my laptop
Your phone has to be jailbroken for iExplorer to access voicemail files. Apparently the paid version (Phone to Mac or Phone to PC) will copy voicemail off a 'regular' iPhone: macroplant.com/phonetomac

On further use this may be a bug as it doesn't seem to always happen (reliably or consistently), or only a partially supported feature. Trying to get to the bottom of this: discussions.apple.com/thread/3836857

comment Why does my iPhone use so much “other” space after upgrade to iOS 5?
Perhaps try an app like iExplorer (macroplant.com/iexplorer) or PhoneView (ecamm.com/mac/phoneview) to see if you can easily browse the file system of your iPad to determine what is taking up the space:

You may want to try a backup and then factory restore. Also, check if there are any apps that store (large amounts of) data locally that could be taking it up.
