comment Can I preset the hibernation file size on a Mac so that it can always hibernate?
Let me add a comment as to trying it out using a JetDrive: it seems that when power is low, it might not be enough power to store 4GB, 5GB, or even 8GB in the JetDrive (and if I copy 8GB of data to the JetDrive, it could take 4 minutes... so I don't know if the power is enough to sustain for 4 minutes. Also, when battery power is out and I plug in the power and start up the machine, the JetDrive seems to be not recognized. I have to charge the Macbook Air up a little before it can be recognized. So, my advice is copy files to the JetDrive, and use the main SSD for the hibernation file.

However, when I opened up Terminal and type in man pmset, then I see this line: "hibernatefile - change hibernation image file location. Image may only be located on the root volume. Please use caution. (value = path)". But then I just gave that line a try and set it to an external drive (yes I got the JetDrive) and it worked... so I wonder what was going on

with the well design UNIX as a foundation I would suppose such control is possible... it shouldn't be something that difficult to implement... the JetDrive is quite nice. It is even better than the low profile USB drive, because something is still sticking out for the low profile USB drive. The JetDrive can be totally inserted. Just that with my USB drive, the Macbook Air seems to run out of power quite a bit sooner.

that's interesting... i don't have access to a PC now, but one time I checked, I thought the PC (with Windows 7) in fact has the hibernation file preset at a certain big size (like my PC has 6GB of RAM and the hibernation file might be about 6GB)

iCloud might work but I only have 5GB space of iCloud and I don't want to pay for now... say if I want to transfer 10GB or 25GB or 28GB of video then I have to pay accordingly?

actually, iTunes will be fine, but alternatives are ok too. I just want to transfer using my Macbook Pro instead of my Macbook Air... I think clicking "Trust this computer" won't work, as it may only allow you to tie one iPad to 1 computer
