comment atd stopped working on OS X 10.10.3
You can run the parent script with sudo if you're kicking it off manually, or you can run it as root via cron. Apple occasionally upgrades the permissions needed to run some command line tools. For example xcodebuild was originally all available to users, but then in one Xcode upgrade the --switch flag started requiring sudo.

comment USB 3 not working on Yosemite MacOS 10.10.2
Since the problem goes away when logged into another use account, the problem can't be in SMC or NVRAM, it has to be something installed in that account.

comment Stop startup sound on MacBookPro without OSX?
On some machines there is nothing you can do to stop the reboot chime, even with a working OS. The chime happens before any hint of the OS is loaded from the hard drive. I had a 2007 Mac Pro and none of the above worked to mute on reboot.

comment Are there any free alternatives to finder?
Path Finder is great and I've been using it since version 4, but the last couple of major versions have had problems with PF freezing the whole machine for minutes at a time. The problem is better in version 7, but it does this every time I launch PF and then try to open a folder. This does not happen on every machine for me. It happens on my Mac Pro(2009), Mac Book Pro Retina (2013), but not on my 2012 MacBook Air. All three machines are running the same latest OS.

comment How to disable spotlight for Alfred
Yes it does. You are not turning off spotlight, just the keyboard shortcut.

comment How do WWDC presenters paste text during demos?
There is no icon in the project, but I could understand removing the artwork before releasing it as open source.

comment Is there anyway to turn off the dreaded slot machine date picker in iOS?
I set appointments in calendars 5 all the time and never see the date picker.

There is nothing that says you have to use the built in calendar app. There are many alternatives. I use Calendars 5 which allows natural language appointment entry.

comment Set audio output source per application
So change it after you plug the headphones in. You can also change the sound output by holding down the option key when pressing the sound control in the menu bar. That makes it very quick and easy to check and change settings.

comment My calendar won't work on my iPhone 4 since upgrading to iOS8. I am unable to save events
Are you sure it's an iPhone 4 and not a 4S? The oldest device that iOS 8 supports is the iPhone 4S.

comment Is there the way to resolve RAM problems?
Then you are up pretty late, Google tells me it's currently 4:41am in Moscow right now. I'd suggest trying to sell it to a somebody with a PC. There tolerances are not at tight as Apple's and it will probably work fine in a PC. My recommendation for where to buy Macintosh upgrades probably won't do you any good either.

Most stores will accept returns as long as it is not damaged. Check the store's return policy.

That wouldn't be unheard of. You could try running Disk Utility's "Fix Permissions" for the disk in question.

The best thing to do would be to boot from a separate partition or hard drive. If you don't have one available, the next best is create a fresh account on the machine. If it doesn't happen with either one of these, it's probably a corrupt file somewhere. If it does happen, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's hardware either. Taking it to the Genius bar at an Apple store is your best bet for getting it fixed quickly.

It's probably a hardware problem. I've seen symptoms like this on a few different systems. It was fixed by taking it to Apple and getting the motherboard replaced. As for the cause, it's hard to tell.

comment Downloaded an app from App Store but it never appeared on my iPod touch
Did you use the home screen's search feature to try and find it? What OS is running on your iPod? What generation of iPod Touch is it?

comment How do I require password prompt EVERY time I close my MacBook's lid?
Closing the lid with an external monitor attached doesn't put it to sleep anymore. I enable this option and also set the upper right as a "Hot Corner" (Screen Saver Preference panel) to start the screen saver. When I leave my system, I flick the cursor to the upper right corner and my system is locked with the screen saver running. Unfortunately, the "Put Display to Sleep" Hot Key option, doesn't lock the system like normal sleep does.
