comment Bluetooth and WiFi interfering with one another since Yosemite
Nice analysis! 802.11b and Bluetooth have always used the same bandwidth (2.4 GHz, since their inception). ---- They are condemned to collide. They can't coexist pacifically, no way.

From your last ping this is neither a hardware wireless problem, nor a network problem from your MBP. This is either a problem from your router or a DNS problem. To discriminate among these 2 possibilities, do a ping to far outside with a name and with its IP address. Ex. : ping www.apple.com & ping 104.84.238.154 or whichever correct @IP will provide you host www.apple.com.

Please add to your original question: version of MacOS X, which channel of Wi-Fi is using your MacBook Pro, a ping directly toward your router (-c 100), which other wireless equipments are in your environment: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wireless phones.

First of all: simplify your problem. Make one account work correctly. Then inactivate it, and add the second one.

IMAP is for receiving, and SMTP for sending.

comment Using rsync to backup
@GrahamMiln: feel free to add my advice about stopping Spotlight if you agree. Because I don't feel it would be useful to make one more answer just to add this technical point. ---- All my comments will vanish.

comment Using rsync to backup
If you want to avoid your backup to be damaged around hidden files by the Finder (in fact the real culprit will be mdworker), you should stop Spotlight from harvesting your disk B.

The E and --delete-after are the key points which make of this answer a winning one.

"There are good reasons to back up files beginning with dots": yes! These files are hidden (from the Finder for the dummies) but most of the time these are very important files.

What the Finder copies is undocumented, and this is the source of everyone's problem when building a backup policy. You should maintain a copy of all files if you want a backup which could be used exactly in place of A disk.

Could you temporarily remove your ~/.bash_profile, start a new login shell, check if you have the same problem, and report this in your OQ.

@Mateusz: this wasn't a zombie, this was a daemon, and I won't be able to help understand why.
