I'm a hybrid programmer / web designer / psychology researcher. I'm currently doing internet-based psychological interventions with a University of California health research lab, trying to help folks learn skills for creating positive emotions and coping with stress effectively.
I also help non-technologically-inclined researchers and administrators manage and collate large datasets. Munging unruly text files may not be glamorous, but you'd be surprised how often it's what gets the science done.

Time Machine drive encryption going for 22 hours. Is it stalled? This is an incredibly useful answer, thank you. I decided to abort the process shortly before reading this, so I can't test it myself. The drive has been having serious problems since then, even after reformatting, so I suspect something is going wrong with it. |

getting “out of memory” error when trying to load specific websites (am not out of RAM) Thanks, but I don't think that's the problem. There's no sign of delays or swapping when this happens; it just instantly gives me the error. Other programs and browser tabs continue to respond without delay. Also, 2.5G of available RAM is rather a lot (unless something is badly broken and it's failing to reallocate the inactive memory). |

Tab key sometimes fails to autocomplete in Go To Folder… sheets in Mountain Lion Now confirmed that there is definitely no indicator when the problem occurs. |

Someone has created an account using an email adress in a domain a I own I see. So, if the person is able to reset the password without verifying the account, then the domain owner could have gotten both of those emails (the verification request and the password reset message) without the owner of the account ever having successfully received an email sent to that address. |

Tab key sometimes fails to autocomplete in Go To Folder… sheets in Mountain Lion Thanks for the great screenshots. Yes, I've seen that indicator from time to time, and when it shows up then something typically happens eventually. On the occasions I'm talking about, there's no indicator and no response to the tab key, even after waiting. I'd double-check this, but unfortunately I haven't figured out how to replicate the problem at will. |

Tab key sometimes fails to autocomplete in Go To Folder… sheets in Mountain Lion Normally when there are multiple matches it autocompletes with the first one alphabetically -- which isn't my favorite behavior, but it definitely does something. I've seen it fail on both ambiguous and unambiguous matches (and later work on those same matches). |
