I bought mine from Fry's - it was either Kingston or Crucial. Any notebook RAM from a decent manufacturer that meets the specs should be fine.

Yes. I am running 16GB of RAM in my 2011 MBP. Apple actually has documentation on how to do this. Just use RAM with the right specs and you should be fine.

comment Why does my myastound.net email come to my iphone but not my ipad?
just a guess - you have it setup to delete mail from the server after it is downloaded - so that after your phone gets the new mail, it is deleted from the server, and when your iPad checks there is no longer any new mail there. Switching to IMAP will fix this, or you can tweak your POP settings.

comment Cannot connect 40“ Samsung to 27” mac
based on an offline comment from Geoff - he is using a HDMI adapter, audio works, video works but the resolution is wonky. So I think the real issue is "how can he adjust the resolution on an external display"

What exactly have you tried? Your question doesn't really contain any useful information. Are you using a displayport --> HDMI adapter (if not, then what)? Does the Mac detect that another display has been connected?

they both have approx the same max power radio output, so I would guess that means they are approx equivalent in range

comment Installing hybrid drive in mid-2010 17-inch MacBook Pro
after using the MBP for a full work day after upgrading, it seems very stable. Performance is good - not earth shattering - but switching between OS X and W7 running VS2010 (under VMWare Fusion) is much smoother than before. No beach balls. No noticeable change in noise or vibration from the new drive.

I literally just finished doing this to my 2011 i7 MBP. Seagate Momentus XT 750 and I also upgraded to 16 GB RAM. Will have to wait and see how performance looks - Geekbench scores haven't really changed after upgrade.
