Budding iOS/Mac developer, trying to learn as much as I can from wherever I can, and develop some best practices along the way.

@AlainKing Would you mind posting your comment as an answer so that I can accept it?

@Gerry The 4S I use here is from the local au/KDDI carrier. I've still got my 4S from Verizon at home, so when I'm done for the day I'll check it out and report back.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Would've never thought it to be a localized issue like that, but sure enough, Google does in fact agree with the sentiment. Thank you very much!

Now THAT... is interesting. And Google definitely seems to corroborate's that. Mind making it an answer so I can +1/accept it? Seems like some good stuff to know.

comment Finance app for personal and business
+1 for Mint. It's a great service that's helped me wrangle my unruly financial management skills under control. I've been using it for two years now, and have yet to have any personal data (that I know of) leaked to the public. In contrast, I've had my PII (Personally Identifiable Information) potentially stolen from my employer (US Navy) several times in the past year.

comment Xcode for iPad?
@hhh Yes. Provided the machine you purchase meets the requirements for Xcode (e.g., OS X 10.7.4 or later), you can use any Mac for development.

comment Xcode for iPad?
@hhh That is correct. The only way that you could run Xcode on a Windows machine is if you were to set up a Virtual Machine running the Mac OS platform, or some other sort of thirt-party workaround. Otherwise, the only official source is via an official Apple system.

To quote the Wikipedia article: "iOS is derived from OS X, with which it shares the Darwin foundation, and is therefore a Unix operating system. iOS is Apple's mobile version of the OS X operating system used on Apple computers."

comment Xcode for iPad?
@hhh It does in a way. iOS is a much smaller, streamlined version of the Mac OS operating system that's optimized for Apple's line of mobile devices.

Excellent article, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Though it doesn't do much to fix the problem, it gives me hope for a fix for the future. Also, the problem seems to be afflicting my 4S as well.

Thank you, but as I said: I've got no problems with the display brightening; it's just a matter of having it go back to darker levels when I go back into a darker room. Watching my wife's new iPad last night, I noticed that it eventually darkened after a good five minutes of inactivity or so. But at that point you might as well just lock the screen then turn it on again.

comment How can I get `defaults write com.apple.screencapture` to change screen capture location in Mountain Lion
+1 for this. As well, have you made sure to include the "location" portion of the command? I forgot to do this myself a couple times and never got any correction from the command line.
