comment TextEdit Strange Error
Try adding TextEdit to the Dock - when it's open, right-click on the Dock icon, go to Options, and select "Keep in Dock". Then, quit TextEdit and try to open a text file by dragging the file onto the TextEdit icon. Also, when you right-click on a text file, what does the "Open With" menu show?

comment unplug externally plugged HDMI display from MacBook Pro
Some monitors do that, some don't. Unless someone pops in with a different solution, it looks like the only way to make the Mac not see the external monitor is indeed to unplug it.

comment Activity Monitor showing ~3,000% percent CPU under normal use
All of the above. To Activity Monitor and most everything else, processors, cores, and hyperthreading virtual cores are the same thing.

That's a good reason. I rescind my downvote.

comment Portable apps for Mac?
@NicolasBarbulesco You did notice that I posted this answer two and a half years ago? If it's such a problem, maybe find a portablized more-recent version and post your own answer. Or just downvote the answer as no longer useful and get on with life instead of being a whiny ass.

@Buscar Because your answer could help someone (just not me), I've upvoted it.

comment Keep message selection in Outlook 2011
@Buscar I didn't downvote you, but I suspect your post was downvoted because it doesn't answer the question. I don't want to have to open every single message in a new window to have them be read. I've explicitly set the top option (when viewed in reading pane) and set that to zero seconds, and I mentioned that in the question.

comment Why would I disable swap file in Mac OS X?
@Huygens In the case of swap, though, the available extra memory space size is the remaining space on your boot hard drive, which is normally quite large. And, then, yes, the system will crash. I've had that happen.

comment DNS not resolving on Mac OS
@dkagedal That's very probably the case. However, nobody seems to be able to diagnose the root cause. If you can come up with a better solution, I'll change my accept to it.

comment How do I “blacklist” a wireless network on my Mac?
@DanPritts That would probably be because your Mac saw the "official" network before the "unofficial" one, and connected to it. You'll have to remove the official network to prevent future connections. (As an aside: what would a blacklist do that removing the network doesn't?)

The question involves the iOS Simulator running on a Mac, not a real iPad.

Do you have special permissions set on the directory? If so, what?

If the keyboard in question is one of the newer chicklet/laptop-style keyboards, it cannot be disassembled as easily.

comment How do you set the iPhone to play music/audio while asleep?
By the way, there's nothing called "deep sleep" on iOS - there's only screen on, screen off, and shut down. Obviously, nothing runs when the device is shut down.

comment How do you set the iPhone to play music/audio while asleep?
Do you mean something like starting music playback then turning the screen off or music starting automatically at some point or something else?

comment Show selected folders size at bottom of finder - like you can in Windows
But you said in your question that in Windows you "look at the bottom of Explorer", and that's what you want in Mac. You never mentioned the size column, which you can easily get if you use List view in the Finder.

I don't have three displays to check this out with, but if this actually works it's the best hidden OS X tip ever.

comment When is the Apple MDM Push Notification Token Generated?
At any rate, now that the question's been closed, you're not going to get any answers here (not that you were all that likely to before), so I recommend visiting Stack Overflow and asking again there.
