@NicolasBarbulesco You did notice that I posted this answer two and a half years ago? If it's such a problem, maybe find a portablized more-recent version and post your own answer. Or just downvote the answer as no longer useful and get on with life instead of being a whiny ass.

@Buscar I didn't downvote you, but I suspect your post was downvoted because it doesn't answer the question. I don't want to have to open every single message in a new window to have them be read. I've explicitly set the top option (when viewed in reading pane) and set that to zero seconds, and I mentioned that in the question.

@Huygens In the case of swap, though, the available extra memory space size is the remaining space on your boot hard drive, which is normally quite large. And, then, yes, the system will crash. I've had that happen.
