comment RAID questions with ML
It's definitely possible to go from a single-drive setup to a multi-drive RAID-1 array. Going to a parity-based system like RAID-5 is more involved. I know the linux md raid system can convert a RAID-1 to a RAID-5 system. I'm not sure what underpins the apple raid system, though.

comment Which OS X programs can rapidly find and replace text in very large files?
@patrix - My first thought was sed too, and then I saw the 7MB comment. 7MB is not a large file. I have 1GB+ log files floating around, and even those really aren't that large. My first thought is a poorly optimized regex.

comment What does the Thunderbolt Display offer besides a display?
@BDotA - Basically, except the whole thing is Intel's idea. Apple just was the first to bring it to market.

If you're open to command-line hackery, this should be quite easy to do.

comment SD CARD saying read only after I tried to delete files from the card
Are you sure you didn't bump the "read only" switch on the SD card when you were handling them/inserting them into the laptop? I know I've done that myself.

comment How can I create a new Recovery Partition on EXTERNAL disk?
If you are trying to do this to a disk with data on it, it may not be possible, as you cannot move the start of a HFS partition. It depends on whether the recovery partition has to be physically before the data partition or not.

@grprado - I do it pretty regularly (ever week or so. My mac crashes more then my PC!), and have not had any problems yet.

comment Turning off hibernate on a MacBook Pro with an SSD
Note that "continuous use" could also be continuous random-reads, which would not affect the device's lifetime much, if at all.

@duci9y - Then change "Continuous use" to say "continuous writes". As it is, it's only an extremely contorted interpretation that you can make it say that.

@alexy13 - It's my understanding that the sleepimage is compressed before being written to disk. I would also bet that anything residing in wired memory is evicted from memory before the sleep image is taken.
