Started out on a mainframe in Palo Alto in 1981, then a PDP11, Commodore, etc... finished 1/2 a bachelor's degree in CS at Duke, then decided to major in philosophy.

Finally ended up doing graphic design, and in the late 90's when web sites became important got back into programming with javascript, perl, php, actionscript, etc.

I love the book "The Adolescence of P1", and live in southern France.

Tried Time Machine, but the files weren't there. Possibly Apple didn't bother backing up files it thought were in the Cloud?

I didn't try Plain Cloud, but since I can verify that there are no hidden files, I don't see how it could help.

The files are not in ~/library/Mobil Documents/, and are not in the iCloud Drive/TextEdit folder. I also checked for hidden files. The 200 files were stored in iCloud under Mavericks, directly from TextEdit. I will check a time machine backup for hidden files.

I did look around at the app package contents, and also within TextEdit (for a long time!) with no luck.

I'd just like to apologize for the testy tone of my previous comment. I really appreciate that people with much more experience on this site make an effort to keep it well organized.

I'm not a developer, just an enthusiast. Therefore I can't sign in to devforums.apple.com. I have read the two links above about why one should not ask about not-publicly-released software, and I will just point out that a) I am in no sense ranting, b) I was clear in asking the question that this is specific to an early beta (there is no risk of confusion for future visitors) and c) software is updated all the time and many "canonical" answers will become out of date unless they refer to a specific software version.

comment SSH connection to Mac works from the outside but not locally
Works: ssh Administrator@192.168.1.10. Doesn't work: ssh Administrator@86.168.205.17. All computers are connected to the internet via my wifi router which has the 86.168.205.17 public IP address. I have tried both examples from my Mac (192.168.1.10) and my iPad (192.168.1.20). There is no difference. If I connect with 3G from the iPad, suddenly ssh Administrator@86.168.205.17 works.

comment SSH connection to Mac works from the outside but not locally
When I connect by the local IP address (192.168...) it works. When I connect by the public (seen from outside my house) IP address, I can neither ping or SSH. All this is done from a computer connected to my router, sharing the same public IP address.
