logged onto icloud, but contacts and notes are not visible I would make sure that the contacts you created are actually in the iCloud account within Contacts on your iOS device or if they are still stuck on the device itself. |

3rd party drive or standard in a new MBP? Go for it. Honestly, that's what I would do. I'm already putting together the money to get an SSD for my MBP myself so I'm not being turned away. |

Will iCloud work with Mail and a Gmail account? What do you mean by "does iCloud work with Mail and a Gmail account"? I'm not sure what you are exactly asking. You can set up an iCloud account with your Gmail email address and just not use the Mail portion of iCloud if you want to do it that way. |

Will iCloud work with Mail and a Gmail account? The way to do that is to have the Gmail account forward all of your mail to your iCloud email address. The iCloud email address will have a collection of everything in that case. |
