All laptops both sleep and hibernate, depending upon their situation, both technologies are well tested for over a decade and completely transparent for applications. Lion introduced this alternative resume/restore functionality that required additional integration with applications. Resume breaks ALL THE TIME, even with Apple's own applications like Terminal and Preview.

No, automatic logout is irrelevant. You aren't even "logged out" when you reenter your password, but more unlocking it. It simply happens that Lion implemented "lock system and conserve power" by closing all your application because they all told it they could restore/resume themselves. You must disable the restore/resume functionality so that Lion hibernates instead, just like Snow Leopard.

comment Trackpad gets stuck in select mode
Interestingly, FingerMgmt has ocasional crashes when running under the Trackpad, but not under Magic Mouse. If it's actually related, maybe that'll give some information. Thanks again!

comment How can I unstick my trackpad button?
I'm happy you mentioned bulging batteries, thanks lkraav, very informative. I had enormous difficulties with the power system in my old 2007 MBP, that machine ate 6+ hard drives, 3-4 batteries, and 4-5 power supplies over 4 years. I never had the patience to let a battery bulge though, sounds like I made the right decisions

I'm trying that now since finding the thread I linked. An Apple tech suggested switching hands and resting one on one side of the case, suggested there is a ground connecter there that occasionally comes loose. Thanks!
