comment Is it necessary to eject an external drive before sleeping?
This isn't a dupe. It's asking about sleeping, whereas the linked question asks about logging out, restarting, and shutting down. They're distinct operations.

comment What Window Management Options exist for OS X?
It's a subtle distinction. In Linux-style alt-dragging, alt-dragging in, for example, the upper-left quadrant of the window would change the coordinates of the upper left corner (demo), whereas in Flexiglass it changes the lower right corner.

comment How does Mountain Lion set the default text editor for the “open -t” terminal command?
Just a heads up, you can also achieve this by running "Install Command Line Tools" from TextWrangler's application menu. It'll install an edit command, which does what your alias does, and in addition has a bunch of command line options.

comment Copy and Cut sometimes don't work
This worked for me on Mountain Lion (10.8.5). I believe this answer deserves more attention. It's worth emphasizing that applications need to be restarted individually - it may be easiest to restart with the "Reopen windows..." option on.

comment iMessage entries appearing in wrong order
I can confirm this is still happening as of OS X 10.8.5, with messages sent from iOS 7.0.4. For example, today one conversation shows as Sent 2, Sent 1, Received 1. The messages were about 40 minutes apart, and with someone in the same time zone. Apple squashed Messages out-of-order bugs in 10.8.3 and 10.8.4, but apparently further bugs persist.

comment How To Remove iMessage Icon On Toolbar (MacBook Pro)
The ol' Cmd-drag can (re)move the built-in icons up there.

comment Editing System/Library files with Property List Editor (PLE)
Now that Property List Editor is part of Xcode, the easier solution may be to change ownership of the .plist and containing directory to your user account temporarily while you edit the file, then change back. I'm surprised Apple didn't seem to think of this.

comment Is there an extension to give Safari the same multiple search engine functionality as Chrome?
I've found Apple neglects their Extensions (and Dashboard Widgets) pages, unfortunately. Lots of 404s, infrequent culling of dead projects, and no built-in search. I agree @robmathers' answer hits the nail on the head, and particularly beats telling folks to Google it.

A bit wordy, but good question.

comment Can Messages display the timestamp of every incoming message?
iOS 7, which is now in the wild, can indeed show timestamps for every message. Just slide your finger right to left in a conversation. (I literally yelled "finally!" while sitting at my desk when I read about this.)

comment Can all Mac software update with one click?
I use a similar meta-updater called AppFresh with some success, although the app itself hasn't been updated since Aug 2012 and there's no sign of ongoing development.

Are you somehow trying to make a Fusion drive? Can you clarify "it changes it"? A screenshot may help.

They are not on my hard drive anywhere (I've looked thoroughly). They only exist on my iPhone.

comment Confused: Will Find My Mac work if the thief just did the hold ctrl and power button restore?
If your Mac has been wiped, it won't sign in to iCloud and thus won't register with Find My Mac.

comment iPhone alarm clock sometimes doesn't work
iPhone uses the last alarm sound you used as the default sound apparently, and this can include "None". It's confusing, so always double check the "Sound" option.

comment Any way to use ssh to recover a Mac from spinning beach ball of death
Killing the Dock process frequently resolves beach balls for me, and can almost always be done over SSH, even when it can't be done locally. It's harmless even if it doesn't work; Dock will just restart.

Have you tried Preview's Full Screen mode (not Slideshow)? You can use View > Actual Size to turn off scaling.

comment How Many Different Ways Are There To Force Quit An Application?
An important variant on the last bullet is using SSH from a second computer to kill a process. Very handy when your Mac is still operating but nothing's showing on the screen, e.g. when Dock crashes on wake up.

comment Exporting PDF with table of contents hyperlinks in Microsoft Word 2011?
YMMV, but try Print > PDF > Save as Adobe PDF. Runs Adobe's processor instead of Apple's.

comment Who controls the contact picture on iOS in address book?
There's "could one change it?" and "could he change it?" I've found profile photo syntonization between popular products like Gmail, Facebook, iOS, and OS X to be utter voodoo. So while it may technically be possible to override, he may not know how nor have the time to figure it out.
