Any way to use ssh to recover a Mac from spinning beach ball of death Killing the Dock process frequently resolves beach balls for me, and can almost always be done over SSH, even when it can't be done locally. It's harmless even if it doesn't work; Dock will just restart. |

How Many Different Ways Are There To Force Quit An Application? An important variant on the last bullet is using SSH from a second computer to kill a process. Very handy when your Mac is still operating but nothing's showing on the screen, e.g. when Dock crashes on wake up. |

Who controls the contact picture on iOS in address book? There's "could one change it?" and "could he change it?" I've found profile photo syntonization between popular products like Gmail, Facebook, iOS, and OS X to be utter voodoo. So while it may technically be possible to override, he may not know how nor have the time to figure it out. |

How does “…” while replying works? If you want to force sending over SMS, you can turn off iMessage briefly, in Settings > Messages. In cases where you don't want to send type ahead notification, that might be useful. |

Switch between ringer and vibrate based on schedule? iOS 6 contains a Do Not Disturb feature, which obviously does not require jailbreak. It can switch between silent & ring based on a schedule, though not vibrate & ring. |

Is a partial restore from an Address Book .abbu file possible? You could import the .abbu file under the guest account, thus not risking the integrity of your main address book. That doesn't handle the side-by-side comparison though. You could also use Export Address Book ($4) to write vCards from specific entries under guest, then import those files under your main account. Not a perfect solution but closer. |

My Texts Show Up as Emails Sounds like the problem's in "it automatically defaults to her email address." Are you sure you have her number stored in a normal way? Try calling her to confirm. iPhone should offer both her phone & email during autocomplete of the message To field. |

Podcasts that I have played or marked as played on my iPhone are not showing as played when I sync to iTunes and are not being removed Is it possible you're manually syncing podcasts as opposed to letting iTunes calculate which ones to sync? The checkboxes in iTunes' Podcasts tab for your iPhone set manual sync choices. You should be sure podcasts are allowed to autodelete from iTunes, which you can confirm in iTunes > Library > Podcasts > Settings.... |
