I am a proficient computer user, fairly good VB.NET programmer, and accomplished computer network hacker/security analyst.

@0942v8653: If you can, test it without the ED. I've noticed that sometimes >console mode and SU mode don't play nicely with ED's.

What happens when you press and hold Shift immediately after logging in? Holding Shift logs you in in a safe mode environment, and disables all startup items.

comment Problem with “Always Open With” in OS X
Out of curiosity, what OS version are you using? 10.6? (this isn't relevant to the question, I'm just a curious dude ;))

Any purchase made with the same Apple ID should be available on any device that is signed in with said ID. Is there a specific problem with seeing your purchase on your Apple TV?

Can you add a little more detail about what the problem is, and why you suspect that the block allocation is to blame?

Have you taken a look at your rEFInd config file? Can you post it here? (rodsbooks.com/refind/configfile.html)

When you open SD pref, is the disk highlighted/selected? If not, click on it, then see if anything changes.

Have you checked the "Startup Disk" preference in System Preferences? I'm not familiar enough with rEFInd to know if it would override that, but perhaps when in Safe Sleep mode, OS X still has 'boot control' and goes off of your startup disk preference. (If this works, let me know and I'll post it as an answer.)

Adding on to @TerryN's answer, the open command has additional options that allow you to explicitly specify what application does the opening. RTMP.

comment OSX Mavericks Root User
@zigg Thanks for the correction--I was thinking of <a href="administratosphere.wordpress.com/2007/07/19/the-wheel-group/… line</a> being changed to allow the specified user to execute commands as root.

comment How to prevent resetting a login password in single user mode or from a recovery partition?
A common saying in IT Security circles is "Physical Access = Complete Access." If one person can get in, so can someone else.

@MaxRied Technically, if iOS 6 is available to devs, isn't that considered "the public"?

comment Front facing camera stopped working on the iPhone 4s
I know that this screen indicates a hardware failure from personal experience. When I took apart my iPhone that was having the exact same problem, I discovered my camera cable connection had come off somehow. I'm revising my answer to include relevant links and stuff.

comment How do I access the files in a deleted user account?
Another way to create the System Administrator (root) user is via Terminal: dsenableroot will ask you for the current user's password (if admin), and then for a new root password twice.
