comment How to convert the cable in my photo to USB?
Just a reminder - if it's a Mac drive it's likely formatted as HFS+, which a Windows PC will not be able to read. If you need to access the FILES from Windows, plugging it in will not help. If you just want to use it as STORAGE, get the adapter above, plug it in, then reformat the drive as NTFS - you'll lose all the data and the drive will no longer be writeable by the Mac though! (OS X opens NTFS drives as read-only unless you pay for 3rd party software to read/write NTFS)

Agreed. We went through the same process, no loss of data on either device.

comment Gmail account set up in Mac
Standard Gmail? Custom account (e.g university-sponsored Gmail)? What's your SMTP server set to? Default should be smtp.gmail.com. Check to see if you are using the default port for secure transfer too.

comment iCloud disabled on Mac…System Preferences iCloud pane dimmed
Is there a reason you should be overriding settings that were put in place by corporate IT on a company-provided Mac? I ask this as a Federal employee who uses a corporate-supplied Mac on a daily basis - the lockdown is determined by IT policy, and overriding their policies is really quite often a bad idea and/or violation of agreed terms of behavior.
