comment Exception to smart quote substitution for one word
I might try that (although, the other way around, the ‘ is correct).

comment What is the “128 font limit” in classic Mac OS?
@SteveChambers I think that's true, and there was third party software to overcome the limit. But that was per machine. The OP is suggesting a global limit—how would that even be enforced?

comment What is the “128 font limit” in classic Mac OS?
I believe it is mistaken. The closest I can imagine is Apple gave out official 7-bit numbers for fonts, the way developers could register their application and file type signature to avoid duplicates, but even if this were true, it would not stop people from adding their own fonts. Indeed, back then everyone was designing a (very ugly) font, using tools as basic as ResEdit. [Edited to add nostalgia.]

comment Getting a < 75 Watt charger for a macbook pro due to flight constraints
My experience is that the 60W adapters will maintain an existing amount of charge in an MBP but, warning, they will not charge a totally dead battery.

Does Apple have the copy of your sales receipt? They have mine linked to my email.

comment Is there a calendar app that supports email reminders?
Fantastical on the Mac desktop will do this, but as far as I can tell, the iOS version does not.

comment How to read old Apple ][ 5.25" floppy disks
Yes, we had modems back in 1985, 1200 baud if you were wealthy. The deal back then was getting an add-on card with a modem port, and a floppy with telnet, ftp, or kermit. Some of those cards could also be used for primitive peer-to-peer file transfer, if you had a second, somewhat newer computer that used a storage medium that's still easy to read.

Some possibility of using Telnet or Kermit?

comment How to read old Apple ][ 5.25" floppy disks
Can you get a network card for the 2100 before you give it away? Then, of course, you can transfer the files to some more modern device. Nothing built in the last 25 years will accept an external 5.25" drive for these disks, even supposing you found the drive!

comment German keyboards for recent model Mac lap-top
There are numerous companies that sell plastic overlays for the different laptop keyboard, with the various layouts. With these covers, you don't need to memorize the layout or keep the Keyboard Viewer visible. (Google "apple keyboard cover"—I have no connection other than customer with any of the sellers.

Suggest using tab completion; perhaps you have an invisible character in or at the end of the folder name.

I suggest trying the Helvetica Neue and Avenir families, as Apple uses them elsewhere.

comment Why is my Mac able to write to my NTFS hard drive?
@Nicholaz, true, the router also can have a file server. I guess the point was that even a direct USB connection can work, if you get a driver.

comment Why is my Mac able to write to my NTFS hard drive?
Then the WD firmware includes a file server (probably Samba, possibly others as well). For what it's worth, there exists software that will let you write to an NTFS drive attached to the Mac computer USB port.
