I don't see anything in the log that seems relevant.

No, logging in as local user.

comment Automatically mounting an external Firewire drive after reboot, without login
Note: This may be similar to apple.stackexchange.com/questions/73351/…, but that question asks about encrypted drives. My drive is not encrypted.

Actually, this is a MacBook, which connects to the Internet via wi-fi. I've added these details to the question.

comment The iPhone home button is sometimes unresponsive. How can I fix it?
Yep, that easily. I told them what the problem was, they looked at it for a minute, then told me they'd replace it.

In my case, the button wasn't "slow". It didn't work at all sometimes, and it was clearly a hardware problem rather than a software setting.

I took it to the Apple Store. They gave me a new phone.

comment AppleScript or Automator Workflow for Bulk-Converting Powerpoint Presentations to Keynote
I can record the UI events (Open With, Save As, etc.). The problem is that this gives me a workflow that only works for a single selected document in the Finder. I want to run it for a large set of documents. How would I do that with Watch Me Do?

comment Is there a way to sync an iPhone 3GS with Mac OS X Tiger?
Well, this is annoying, but it forced me to find time to upgrade that old iMac to Leopard. All is good now. Thanks!

comment Should I use MaxiVista or Air Display for a Windows 7 monitor extender?
MaxiVista sells a version of their product that lets you use another Windows machine as a secondary display for a Windows machine. That is the thing that costs 40 bucks, but that is not what we are talking about--we are talking about using an iPad as a secondary display. The MaxiVista product that lets you use an iPad as a secondary display costs $9.99.

Note that, by default, the "at" command is disabled. Use "man atrun" to figure out how to enable it.

Please stop saying that MaxiVista costs $40. MaxiVista for iPad is $9.99, same as Air Display. (The $40 and $100 prices are for versions of MaxiVista that run on other Windows machines, not on iPads.)

balexandre, you are looking at the price for the full Windows version of Maxivista, not the iPad version, which is currently $9.99 in the App Store.
