I think your basic strategy is correct, e.g.: ssh -L 587:smtp.gmail.com:587 -L 993:imap.gmail.com:993 user@yourremotehost should get you talking to Gmail via yourremote host. Potential problems are if you do not run this as root (with sudo), you are not allowed to specify local ports below 1024 - so you can't use 587 or 993 as your local ports. So, do ...

When first launched, Sparrow can be pretty intense on your harddrive and internet connection, since it's downloading every email. About the column thing, it was probably still syncing your labels and everything, and that's probably why it was misbehaving. About your WiFi issue, it could be the same thing, since Sparrow is downloading every email, you WiFi ...

No this is not a file alias (which is the same as a shortcut in windows) but an email alias. An email alias is an additional email address for an existing account. You create an account with an address email@example.com and then a series of additional address for the very same account (the aliases). You will have one account several addresses It is the ...

There is a solution to your issue but it requires a little AppleScript jiggery pokery. Johan Bruning posted an AppleScript for this on GitHub. He's included instructions for installing it in the README which is also visible on the project's GitHub page. In his blog post about the script he writes, "I am happy to report it works like a charm and my iCal now ...

This is mentioned in the release notes for 1.0.1: Be aware that implementing the ‘Menu bar only’ mode breaks the usual bouncing behavior of the dock icon. We know no AppStore compliant workaround for the dock icon to behave properly when the ‘Menu bar only’ is implemented.

Sparrow's development was halted quite a while ago, and as OS X has developed, Sparrow hasn't kept up. Most notably is the addition of Containers for app's data and I speculate that this is causing some problem with some code in Sparrow. Obviously, this is speculation as I haven't seen Sparrow's source code, but I don't think it's something that you can fix ...

I have two backup recommendations. Although these are not apps you'd use to manage your mail, they do backup your account to your system so you can use whatever management client you like (e.g. Sparrow, Mail, etc.). I use getmail by Charles Cazabon to back up my entire Gmail account silently in the background. The emails are backed up into a large .mbox ...

I figured this out: I had a problem that my font got changed size 11, and changing back to 13 didn't fix the default - the next email would go back to 11 The solution is this: Type some text and highlight it. But instead of changing the font in the pulldown above the editing window (which won't change the default), so this instead: With the text ...

Things you could try: Move the keyboard layout to /Library/Keyboard Layouts/. Keyboard layouts in the user library can't be selected in password dialogs or the login window. Change the ID from Keyboard > Set Keyboard ID... in Ukelele. Save the keyboard layout as a bundle instead of an XML file. To apply changes to a keylayout file, you can for example ...

You could just use temporary screen pop-ups, and disable the notification center: You can set this per app. Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Notifications Then, for Sparrow, choose Banners, not alerts.

I use Sparrow daily, but haven't ever needed to use it offline. From a few different websites (after Googling), it appears as though people do use it offline, but that it is still slightly buggy. I found a blog post that talks a bit about how it works great offline. There was also this question over on webapps that suggests using Sparrow or Mail.app (if not ...

In general, you probably want to use something like CleanApp for this, but for Sparrow you can actually get this form the App itself. In the Help menu on Sparrow, you'll see a couple of items "Show Log Folder" and "Show Data Folder". The latter is the local cache of your emails, the former may or may not actually do anything (e.g. if Sparrow's not generated ...
