Screen captures are image or video recordings of a screen (e.g. computer monitor). These are commonly used for one of several purposes:
- Providing a visual aid, such as in many answers on Ask Different,
- Recording a "screencast", a podcast-type video generally showing recommended software or tutorials, or
- Recording an image on the screen for posterity (such as a notable number of page views, for instance).
The screen-capture tag is generally used for questions about creating these images or videos or recommending/troubleshooting software to create them with.
