It's basically not possible to make a new MobileMe account while the transition to iCloud is happening. There are some loopholes (like adding a new account under an existing Family account) - but most will have to wait until iCloud is released. The official word on that is a vague - in the fall of 2011. From the Apple preview page covering Contacts, ...

This has changed a little with 10.7. It's no longer done via @computername.mobilemename.members.mac.com, it's now done via members.btmm.icloud.com, and its no longer as simple as your mobilemename. Step 1: Find out your iCloud BTMM domain Either of these commands will provide your BTMM domain: # dns-sd -E # mDNS -E The output is formatted slightly ...

You will still be able to access the mobile me website and files making the website through June 30th, but iCloud does not offer web hosting or internet-based disk storage. After June 30th you will need to find a different web hosting service. Longer version here: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html

No need to suppose, that just happend to me (somewhat). Preventive measures As of today, suppose you have an iPhone 4, iPad or new iPod Touch running iOS 4 and you had previously activated the free MobileMe "lost my iphone". Then you're in the best situation of all. Suppose you don't have any of the new iDevices, but still are on iOS 4 and want to activate ...

There is no supported way to do this. Having said that, you can do it using scutil: louis@Arios:~$ sudo scutil > set Setup:/Network/BackToMyMac > d.add <YYY> <XXX>.members.btmm.icloud.com > set Setup:/Network/BackToMyMac > quit louis@Arios:~$ Replacing <YYY> with the UID of the user account on the system (for most people ...

Yes. You will have to opt in to switch your account over, but it sounds like it will be fairly painless as long as you agree to all the new (unannounced as of yet) license terms. From the Apple FAQ on the MobileMe/iCloud transition: Will I be able to keep my MobileMe email address when I move to iCloud? Yes. If you have an active MobileMe account ...

As I have attempted to do this myself, Im pretty sure you cant combine the two. You can try contacting Apple Support but they will probably tell you the same thing. Apple doesn't allow you merge AppleIDs or in other words use a mobileme AppleID for an iTunes account AppleID ( AppleIDs are just the username/email address I think). This sounds reasonable ...

I don't really have a direct answer for you, but I would like to help by sharing what I know. I have a Mobile Me account, and there are no tools for editing your photos online. It's an image gallery. A gallery is meant just for viewing and not for editing. Mobile Me was designed to work in conjunction with the iLife software on a desktop mac. You edit the ...

Backup is used by the MobileMe Backup application. I don't recommend using it. Groups is for a now defunct Groups feature that they used to have. Library is used for MobileMe's syncing feature - primarily for Preferences and Bookmarks. Sites is used for webpages or anything you want shared at http://homepage.mac.com/username/. Note: PHP files, CGI ...

Here is a fantastic article on moving to iCloud. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4918 And, yes, you can keep your current @me.com address. Instead of being associated with MobileMe, @me.com email addresses are now iCloud (and MobileMe user will be migrated over), so the email address that comes with iCloud is @me.com. Again, I believe you are able to keep ...

I read a few articles on the underpinning of Back To My Mac and supposedly some people have effectively connected via ssh, check out the discussion contained in this Macworld post. The best post in the thread is as follows: Use the following format for connecting as a differnent username: ssh user.name@hostname.username.members.mac.com. If ...

The service is only free to users of the iPhone 4, and if I recall correctly users of the iPad. It’s a feature that’s part of MobileMe, but now it’s also free on every iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.* From the Apple Website, bold mine To use this functionality on any other device requires a full MobileMe subscription. It is automatically active once you have ...

If you mean this icon: You must run iSync (by QuickSilver or Spotlight خق go into /Applications and double-click iSync) then uncheck "Show status in menu bar".

You can actually just go into the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" section of your system preferences on your Mac. Click the add account option on the left and then click the iCloud option on the right, it will give you the option to generate a new apple ID account with an option to make it a free @me.com account.

This article from Apple Support answers some commonly-asked questions related to the Mobile Me to iCloud transition. This article from Apple Support explains how to move to iCloud. From this article we read the following: Inactive and expired MobileMe accounts do not need to move to iCloud. Simply use your inactive or expired account to sign up for an ...

The reason they both still exist is because they are still separate services being offered by Apple. Users of MobileMe prior to the announcement of iCloud paid a yearly subscription fee for the service. Rather than refund those customers, Apple will continue to offer the MobileMe services only to those subscribers who have an active subscription. MobileMe ...

If you go into Preferences, Accounts, select your account, then select the "Mailbox Behaviors" tab, there's an option to disable saving drafts on the server. I know you said you didn't want to disable saving of drafts, but this option will still save the draft on your computer, yet it won't mess up Mobile Me.

Not with MobileMe's built in sync function, it only works with Safari. You could use Opera's Link, which might work ok for what you're after - Can I use other browsers to access my bookmarks? Yes, you can log into a web-based user interface using Opera browsers, including Opera for Mac/PC, Opera Mobile or Opera Mini. You can also access your ...

Yes a family pack allows you to create 4 additional usernames that have all the features of the main account, the only difference being that they are limited to 5gb of storage. I upgraded to a family pack and used one of the 4 additional accounts for my girlfriend so she could use Find My iPhone (before it was free with an AppleID) she can also sync her ...

I know this might sound unrelated but after moving my keychain from one machine to another I've had to fix permissions with Disk Utility in order to regain access to my keychain. And in my experience it seems to be a bad idea to move your keychain from one machine to another when your password differs between machines.

I downloaded the Walgreens app and emailed pics to my local store. The only problem is if you edit your photos on the iPad, it doesn't transfer to the store. So just use their browse and edit button, fix the pics there and create an album, send and pick up in hours. So far this has worked.

Depends what calendar you're adding the events to. In the Calendar app, in the top left, there is a Calendars button which lists all the calendars on the phone. You should hopefully see your MobileMe calendars in there, labelled as such in their own section. The theory goes that you should see any events on MobileMe that you've added to the calendars listed ...

Big thanks to hobs and ghoppe who both had workable solutions. The main problem is that MobileMe Back To My Mac uses IPv6 addressing if available and perhaps exclusively, so I didn't think to use ping6 or traceroute6 and ssh is apparently smart enough to resolve either IPv4 or IPv6. ssh -p 22 username@computername.mobilemename.members.mac.com. works very ...

That account shouldn't be burned since Apple explicitly allows for renewal of expired trials as part of the normal upgrade process. You will very likely lose your data if it has been expired past 15 days but you shouldn't lose the account if you still know the password and can answer security questions or account history questions if you get to a human for ...

You can call AppleCare as suggested and merge all your purchases from the old Apple Id to the new Apple Id. I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to consolidate them into a single Apple ID? Sorry, but this is not possible at this time via our online tools. You can speak with an AppleCare representative, who can help you consolidate your ...

The program injected data into ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/TFSM by calling code to add their sync schema to Mobile Me's local sync database. You want that program to call unregisterSchemaWithName before you delete it so that data is deleted out of MobileMe. The Local SyncServices folder governs iOS device sync as well as MobileMe sync - ...

From this Apple Support page: Can I create a new MobileMe account? You can no longer create a new 60-day trial account or start a new subscription using a code contained in a MobileMe box. However, if you have a Family Pack subscription, you can still create new family member accounts. Edit: I hadn't targeted the actual question very well: "How can ...

Apple takes applications for refunds for MobileMe boxes. I don't know if they would give a refund for .Mac or not, but it's worth trying. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4445

2

If you can't get a refund (you may need a receipt to do so), since it's an actual box, you might think about donating it to Shrine of Apple. New site set up looking to collect and preserve every Apple product they can find in an online museum of sorts.

The short answer is you get to keep MobileMe as it is until June 30, 2012. Sometime between when iCloud launches (tomorrow?) and next June, you can choose to learn about and use iCloud (assuming it meets all your current and future needs) or find another email provider. It is clear that Apple has said you will lose access to you me.com account if you ...
