I loaded a SSD into the optical bay of my 2011 MBP today, and initially it was picked up just fine - I used disk utility to format it to extended journalled, and set about moving files onto it with carbon copy.

I followed its instructions to setup a recovery partition, and unfortunately the program "had a problem" and closed midway. Now, having rebooted a couple times, I can't access the drive anymore.

It doesn't show in disk utility, nor with diskutil list, and there is only disk0 in the /dev/ directory.

Short of opening it up and manually testing it, is there any way for me to determine through OSX what has happened? I think its corrupt rather than failed (brand new).
