Anyone who has tried GDB's nifty
layout interface must be impressed by its convenience. Unfortunately, however, Apple developers never realized this, so Xcode, even with its optional command line tool bundle, does not offer a GDB with TUI enabled. (Well, that's understandable—how do you ever need the command line GDB to debug a Cocoa app...)
I have tried to build GDB from 6.5, 7.0, 7.3, 7.5 source tar ball, or install from MacPorts, but none of these worked even though one time (only one time) I managed to overcome the permission issue (Giving gdb permission to control other processes). A strange issue arises whenever launching or running an executable in GDB (with or without permission issue), something like this:
BFD: unable to read unknown load command 0x24
(Actually my problem is quite similar to this thread: gdb fails on mountain lion.
All these said, has anyone ever succeeded in building a working version of TUI-enabled GDB on Mountain Lion? Thanks in advance.
Please note that I'm not looking for an alternative, for instance,
cgdb. (Actually, according to my brief research,
cgdb does not even support assembly. Without assembly support, I would use Xcode instead.)
