I have a 750gb external hard drive that stopped being recognized. I can't tell with full certainty but I think it was after I connected it to a Windows computer. I've read online, in the meantime, how it's a bad idea to mix HFS+ and FAT32 on the same disk. I don't really understand why, though. But what I most want is to recover functionality. I was using the drive chiefly for Carbon Copy backups.
I could start the drive from scratch because it is actually my backups drive, but if I manage to avoid that (certainly a longer process) by doing a few "tricks" then I will be very happy and learn something for the future.
I downloaded something called TestDisk but I didn't manage to do anything useful from it... kinda gave up at some point and decided to come here.

So if you'd like to take up the challenge of helping me restore this drive to normality... I will much appreciate it.
I will do my best to followup without much delay although I can't be sure how often I will be online today.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.
Note: the most important partition, Carbon Copy Clone, is encrypted, to match my internal Filevault-encrypted disk. It worked just fine for a few weeks. I guess it shows up as Unknown exactly because of being encrypted.
P.S.: I'm on OS X 10.7.5 on a Macbook 2,1 from 2007
