I'm in a bind! My late '09 iMac running OSX 10.7 (Lion) was repaired under the Seagate warranty replacement for a faulty 1TB internal HDD. Prior to taking it to the Apple Store for the repair, I backed it up to an external HDD using TimeMachine.
I got the iMac back today, and when I powered it up and was presented with the Setup Assistant screens, I decided to change the username information, without realizing the implications this would have with my TimeMachine restoration.
After downloading the latest OSX updates and reinstalling other software, I connected my external HDD to restore all of my data/files via TimeMachine. I was presented with two username backup files to choose from; one for a laptop (not using that one), and one for the iMac, which was labeled with the modified username that I had just created on the iMac.
I was able to see backups dated prior to taking the iMac in for repair, selected the most recent one, and ran the Restore function. None of my files or settings transferred.
When I search the external TimeMachine HDD, I can see a folder for a backup with my old username, but I am unable to access any of the data in the folder.
Can anyone tell me how I might restore my files?
Thanks in advance!
