I'm having difficulty keeping a Mail setting in System Preferences (10.8.2) persistent.
I have an iCloud account that is the same as my AppleID - email@example.com.
I don't want to use the firstname.lastname@example.org as my public facing email address, so set up an alias - email@example.com on iCloud.com. (This also provides me with firstname.lastname@example.org email alias, which I have not used.)
Within System Preferences on my Mac, I check the Mail component of iCloud and then verify this is reflected in Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences. All good - both checked. Quit Sys Prefs, launch Mail.
In the Mail Preferences Accounts pane it displays MobileMe IMAP (blue @ logo) as the account type with my alias only - no indication of an iCloud (silver cloud logo) account.
I then go back to check System Preferences and note the following:
iCloud - Mail is now unchecked
Mail, Contacts & Calendars - iCloud account (silver cloud icon that says Contacts and 7 more...) now has Mail unchecked and there is a new iCloud account (blue @ icon with just Mail) with just my email@example.com Mail option checked.
Why can't I get the iCloud account (firstname.lastname@example.org) to show up in Mail as my only account AND have the ability to send from the email@example.com alias as part of that account instead of it auto generating a new account in Mail and modifying my Sys Prefs?
Thanks in anticipation.
